As a dad of toddlers one of the things that really annoys me is when my 3 year old son unlocks his seatbelt when we are driving. I have a booster seat suitable for his size which uses the seat-belt to secure him in place. It’s all perfectly legal and perfectly safe, until that is, my son decides he wants to get out of the seat.

The usual routine starts off with me seeing him trying to un-do the seat belt, at which point I would start cajoling him out of un-doing the seat belt, offerings of treats when we get home, distraction method and then warning of punishment of some kind…..all to no avail. No matter where I was I’d have to pull over, put him back in his seat, buckle him in, and repeat treat, distraction, punishment all in one offer for him not to do it again.

I eventually began intertwining another seat belt around the buckle to somehow prevent him from opening it, but again to no avail. We spent over eighty euro on this bloody seat and the last thing I wanted to do was get rid of it and replace it with a smaller seat with built-in straps (which somehow defeat his Houdini hands) which also has a much shorter life span.

So, I started looking for a solution to the problem. Asked Mr. Google and much to my pleasant surprise there was a solution. Not only that, the solution didn’t come from the other side of the world but right here in Ireland. When I found beltlock.ie I knew this was exactly what I was looking for.
